Jason Weatherspoon scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Raymond Almazan also contributed a double-double, including the game-clinching free throws, to help Rain Or Shine outlast GlobalPort 98-96 in the PBA Governor's Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

Almazan, who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, nailed 2 free throws after he was fouled by Billy Mamaril in a loose-ball play with 4 seconds to go.

Terrence Romeo's 3-pointer was off the mark in the ensuing play, securing Rain Or Shine's win.

While Weatherspoon was efficient from the field (11 of 18, 61%), he was subpar on the free-throw line, making only 3 of 13 for 23%.

"We did terrible on the free throws but in the end when Raymond got that offensive board and the free throw, those shots are big shots," Rain Or Shine coach Caloy Garcia said.

"Throughout the game, I told the players that GlobalPort will never give up. They are such a very high-scoring team. I think they got the best ball-handling in the PBA. It's really hard to defend them."

Maverick Ahanmisi added 17 points and 3 3-pointers for Rain Or Shine, which had numerous chances to pull away in the 2nd half, but GlobalPort wouldn't let the Elasto Painters.

From 14 points down at halftime, GlobalPort made it 71-70 heading into the 4th quarter.

After an 8-0 run by Rain Or Shine extended its lead to 79-70, GlobalPort countered with a 10-2 run to pull within 81-80.

Ahanmisi's 2 free throws gave Rain Or Shine an 89-82 cushion with less than 5 minutes to go, only for GlobalPort to tie the game at 96-all with 76 seconds left in the game.

After several empty possessions by Rain Or Shine, Weatherspoon had a chance to break the deadlock but he missed both free throws, the 2nd one disputed by Almazan and Mamaril. The referees called Mamaril for holding, which sent Almazan to the line for the winning free throws.

Romeo finished with 28 points, 5 3-pointers and 5 assists, while Stanley Pringle chipped in 21 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals for the Batang Pier.

American reinforcement Jabril Trawick played only 16 minutes in a foul-plagued night. He finished with only 3 points before fouling out midway through the 4th quarter.
