Ray Parks Jr. finished with a triple-double to lead Mandaluyong El Tigre to a 98-55 win over the Pasig Pirates in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City on Thursday.
Actor Xian Lim saw 15 minutes of action for El Tigre, scoring 6 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.
Lim, whose celebrity star power made his debut highly anticipated, needed to work on a prior commitment, delaying his suiting up for El Tigre.
Ray Parks Jr. attributes historic triple-double to team effort
He finished with a free throw (1 of 2), a 2-pointer and a 3-pointer (2 of 6 from the floor), to go with 4 turnovers and 1 block for Mandaluyong, which upped its record to 2-1.
Parks tallied 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
“It’s a dream come true para sa akin,” the 6-foot-1 Lim said in an article posted on ABS-CBN Sports.
“Ito ang dahilan kung bakit ako pumunta from the States to the Philippines, to play basketball for UE along with (JR) Alabanza kaya nakakatuwa na nag-reconnect kami.”
Lim was a part of University of the East’s Team B a few years back but never made it into the school’s main team in the UAAP as he shifted his career into showbiz.
He is now looking forward to Mandaluyong’s game against Marikina – a squad that parades another Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson.
“Pinag-uusapan namin yun noong isang araw ang sabi ko, ‘Bro kailan tayo maglalaro? Wala pa tayong schedule,’ ” said Lim.
“Pero parehong kaming nangangamba kasi all the other players we’re playing with napakagaling and siyempre for me and Gerald to get playing time, si Gerald naman he’s a really good basketball player. Pero for me and him to get playing time, nilalakasan na lang po namin ang dasal namin kay Lord.”
