MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Gilbert Bulawan of the Blackwater Elite has died after collapsing during practice on Sunday. He was 29 years old.

Bulawan was pronounced dead on arrival at Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City.

According to a report from Richard Dy of Fox Sports, Bulawan collapsed in the arms of teammate Reil Cervantes during practice. The report said Bulawan suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

"We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of our beloved players and a member of our PBA family, Gilbert Bulawan," PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa said in a statement Sunday night.

"On behalf of the PBA, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family, and I would like to request everyone to pray for his eternal and peaceful rest," he added.

Bulawan played collegiate basketball for San Sebastian College, winning an NCAA championship in Season 85. He was taken by the Alaska Aces with the 17th overall pick in the 2011 PBA Draft and was traded to the Meralco Bolts.

Bulawan was selected by Blackwater in the 2014 Expansion Draft. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.2 minutes of playing time per game for the Elite in the 2015-2016 season.

PBA players offered their thoughts and prayers to Bulawan's family on social media.
