Terrence Jones came up with another 40-point effort to lead TNT Katropa’s 107-91 domination of Meralco in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.
Jones finished with 49 points and 18 rebounds while helping the Texters gain the solo lead in the standings with a 6-1 record.
Even without injured Jayson Castro the Texters led by as many as 19 points against the Bolts, who struggled to find their footing with replacement reinforcement Jimmie Taylor.
Stepping up in Castro’s absence were Ryan Reyes, Don Trollano and Troy Rosario. Reyes had 19 points, while Trollano and Rosario chipped in 16 and 11, respectively.
Jones carried the fight for TNT early in the final canto where he scored 18 straight points and helped the Texters pull away for good.
Chris Newsome had a career-high 32 points but this did not save the Bolts from picking their second straight loss. Meralco now has a 3-4 record.
Taylor, who replaced Gani Lawal, ended up with 13 points and 18 rebounds.
