Senator-elect Manny Pacquiao and his staff are currently undergoing a crash course on governance to prepare for his legislative duties in the Senate starting this July.
Pacquiao started attending the nine-day executive coaching on Wednesday to familiarize himself with the social graces, protocols and parliamentary procedures in the Senate.
Also included in the course are discussions related to various topics including the Conditional Cash Transfer Program, health, education, economy, disaster response, foreign policy, Freedom of Information bill and the West Philippine Sea.
They will go through a workshop near the end of their session next week.
“Marami pa tayong matututunan about legislation at saka yung vision natin dito sa anim na taon, ‘yung mga gagawin.. dapat nating gawin pagtuuanan ng pansin at magfocus,” said the retired boxing star.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao could possibly head the Senate Committee on Public Works this coming 17th Congress. But he also wanted to chair the Senate committee on Games and Amusement.
“Isa na rin yan yung komitiba na ating hahawakan ay pag-aaralan na natin. Then ‘yung supporting the advocacy of the administration ni President Duterte,” said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao retired from boxing ahead of the 2016 national elections to focus on his political career.
He said he has decided to leave the sport for good after drawing flak for being the congressman with the most absences during his two terms as House representative for Sarangani province. – With a report from Francis Canlas, ABS-CBN News
