Football: Stephan Schröck, Daisuke Sato lead Azkals in PH-China friendly

The Philippines men's national football team flew to China on Wednesday to kick off its preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

This means having to play a pair of matches there, including a friendly with the China national team at Guangzhou Tianhe Stadium on Friday, according to the Philippine Football Federation’s official website.

After that, the Azkals are also set to test their mettle against a local club in Guangdong province on Sunday.

The 2 sides last met 2 years ago in China, where the hosts came away with an 8-1 win.

Spearheading the Azkals are Stephan Schröck, Daisuke Sato, goalkeeper Patrick Deyto, and defender Marco Casambre, including new additions Bernd Schipmann of Rot Weiss Ahlen and midfielder Christian Rontini of ASD Sangiovannesse 1927.

Scott Cooper will serve as their head coach.
