The PFL was set to kick off on April 18, 2020, but it was postponed after the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine amid rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The PFF's protocols were submitted to GAB for evaluation and endorsement to the government's Inter-Agency Task Force for their evaluation and approval.

The PFF said it intends to "work closely with the various government agencies for the gradual return of football by starting with resumption of the professional league under strict health and safety protocols."

Football has begun to gradually return in other countries, with Germany's Bundesliga resuming last May 16. La Liga in Spain is set to resume on June 11, while the English Premier League will kick off again on June 17. The Serie A in Italy will restart on June 20.
