Gilas Pilipinas has dropped its plans of holding camp in Russia, as Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas sets its sights on Spain.

“Team manager Gabby Cui found 4 to 5 games in Spain,” SBP president Al Panlilio said Thursday after emerging from the PBA’s Board meeting, according to ABS-CBN Sports.

The SBP has met with heads of the PBA clubs to discuss the availability of the players based on the league’s schedule.

“That’s something we’re working on based din sa schedule na we sent to the PBA. Practice games and a mini tournament in Spain for Gilas,” said Panlilio.

The national team will get the opportunity to play against Spain, Ivory Coast, and Congo. Of the three, Congo won’t play in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

The SBP was initially eyeing a camp for Gilas in Russia, but it didn’t work due to lack of playing opportunities.

“I mentioned Russia before, ’yung through kay Andrei Kirilenko, but it fell through,” Panlilio said.

“It was just one game that they were committing, sabi namin it’s gonna be too painful to go all the way to Russia and just play one game.”

Gilas will begin practicing on June 13.
