MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel Beer guard Alex Cabagnot had two reasons to celebrate following their 106-94 triumph over the Phoenix Fuel Masters on Wednesday.

It was a breakthrough victory for the Beermen in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup, as they started their title defense with three consecutive losses.

Moreover, Cabagnot reached a career milestone in the game, as he moved into the top 10 of the PBA's all-time assists leaders.

The "Crunchman" had seven assists to go along with 13 points in the victory, giving him a total of 2,939 dimes in his 13-year PBA career. That put him at No. 10 in the list, moving past Francis Arnaiz.

"I wish my mom, my brother, and my family could've witnessed it," said Cabagnot of his achievement. "I'm glad we won, but it's such a big accomplishment."

"Siyempre, being in the league for . . . it's my 13th year, so to God be the glory," he added.

Cabagnot said he was unaware that he was so close to a new career mark, and was only concerned about how they were playing. His big worry, he said, was that they were trailing at the half.

"I was aware we were down by 12," he said, referring to a 49-37 deficit that they faced at the break.

"I wasn't really aware of an individual feat like that, until coach told me after the game. It feels good," he added. "I think all the Top 10 members are Hall of Famers, and just being mentioned is a blessing."

"I'm just happy right now," he added.

Cabagnot is the only active player in the top 10. Topping the list is Robert Jaworski, followed by Ramon Fernandez, Dindo Pumaren, Johnny Abarrientos and Jimmy Alapag.
