MANILA, Philippines -- Two players from the disbanded Technological Institute of the Philippines(TIP) men's basketball team have found a new home in University of Santo Tomas (UST).

ABS-CBN Sports reported that Bryan Santos and Ivan Santos (not related) are now headed to the Growling Tigers.

Bryan averaged 16.3 points and 6.9 rebounds for the Engineers in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, while Ivan posted numbers of 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds.

They will have to sit out a year of residency before suiting up for Aldin Ayo's squad.

TIP had to disband its men's basketball team -- as well as its other varsity squads -- because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Engineers coach Potit de Vera encouraged coaches to talk directly to his players in an effort to find them new teams.

The athletics programs of various schools have been hit hard by the pandemic. Colegio de San Juan de Letran will implement cost-cutting measures in its department, including the dissolution of several varsity teams, and Arellano University plans to do the same.
