MANILA, Philippines – Zark's Burger-Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) displayed its peak form late in the game to overcome Che'Lu Bar&Grill-San Sebastian College, 92-82, in the winner-takes-all contest of the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup finals on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The win completed the Jawbreakers' recovery from a 0-1 hole in the best-of-3 series, and made them the lowest-seeded team to win the championship in the developmental league.

CJ Perez showed why he is the Most Valuable Player of the conference as he sparked Zark's-LPU with 26 points, six rebounds, eight steals, and two assists, leading the way in their fourth quarter turnaround.

"I just told them that love wins," said Zark's-LPU coach Topex Robinson. "As long as we love each other and trust each other, we'll win."

The Jawbreakers were down by 14 points, 49-63, with 2:46 left in the third period before uncorking a 21-4 run. They finally took control, 85-74, with 4:06 left to play.

Cameroonian center Mike Nzeusseu was a dominant force for Zark's-LPU, tallying 28 points and 18 rebounds, while veteran forward MJ Ayaay had 14 points in the closeout win.

To win the crown, Zark's-LPU had to shake off a brutal first half and clamp down on defense. They forced Che'Lu to 18 turnovers in the second half, which they turned to 36 points.

"I just told the players that we know there are people praying for us," said Robinson. "You're inspiring people, and you're doing that by not just giving up."

Michael Calisaan paced the Revellers with 17 points and six rebounds, while Alfred Batino and Ryan Costelo finished with 12 markers apiece in the tough defeat.
