MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Beloved mentor Tai Bundit has coached his last game for the Ateneo de Manila University.

The Thai coach confirmed on Saturday, following Ateneo's loss to Far Eastern University, that his contract with the team has expired already.

"End of contract," Bundit told reporters after the Lady Eagles bowed to the Lady Tamaraws, 20-25, 21-25, 25-14, 19-25, to end their campaign in the UAAP Season 80 women's volleyball tournament.

Bundit will stay on as head coach of the Creamline Cool Smashers in the Premier Volleyball League.

According to sources from the Ateneo, it was always understood between the school and Bundit that he will simply finish out his duties with the team in Season 80. Already, the school is in the process of searching for a new coach.

Bundit had initially parted ways with the Lady Eagles ahead of Season 80, before being reinstated by Ateneo president Fr. Jett Villarin, SJ.

The Thai coach steered the Lady Eagles to four straight Finals appearances from Seasons 76 to 79, a stretch highlighted by back-to-back titles in Seasons 76 and 77.

He also guided a young Ateneo team to the Final 4 in UAAP Season 80, but fell short against the Lady Tamaraws.

"We did good already," said Bundit. "We have new setter, we have new libero. Top 4 is very good for me already."

The Thai coach expressed his gratitude to the Ateneo de Manila University and its fans following a tremendous five-year stretch with the team.

"I love Ateneo. I love my players. I love alumni. I love Ateneo fans. I love... Ateneo students. Everything Ateneo, helped me get big name here. I love Philippine fans, very kind to me," he said.
