MANILA, Philippines -- PBA legend Nelson Asaytono is now in recovery after suffering a heart attack last week, the league confirmed.

Asaytono, who played 17 seasons in the PBA, suffered a heart attack and was confined in the intensive care unit of a hospital in General Trias City, Cavite. The league website reported that he was discharged on Saturday.

"Tutulong kami (sa kanya)," PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said of the 53-year-old legend. "Pati 'yung mga legends, nag-usap na rin sila na tutulong kay Nelson."

(We will help. Even the legends vowed to help him.)

"Ina-arrange na natin kung paano maipapa-abot 'yung tulong ng PBA, kasi nga naka-ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) pa tayo," he added.

(We are still arranging how we can send him help, as we are under an enhanced community quarantine.)

A seven-time PBA champion, Asaytono was the second overall pick in the 1989 PBA Rookie Draft and went on to become a 10-time All-Star and a two-time Best Player of the Conference during his career. He retired in 2006.
