TERNATE, Cavite—Manny Pacquiao has every right to pick his opponent because he has earned it, a boxing matchmaker said.

Fans believe Pacquiao is ducking Errol Spence Jr. after Pacquiao posted an online poll asking the public whom he should fight next.

Pacquiao listed Floyd Mayweather Jr., Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter as choices, but left out Spence, the IBF welterweight champion.

“That’s nothing to do with ducking. This man earned everything,” matchmaker Sean Gibbons said Tuesday.

“He’s 40 years old, not 30,” Gibbons added, referring to Pacquiao’s age. “If he’s 30, you call it ducking.”

Pacquiao has fought the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez on the way to stardom.

“Do maybe a third of what he did maybe you can call him out, but calling him out for a payday is something else,” said Gibbons.

As of now, Pacquiao’s choices are WBA super-welterweight champion Thurman and Garcia.

His top choice is Floyd Mayweather Jr., but the retired American fighter has hinted

“Pacquiao’s life doesn’t revolve around Floyd,” Gibbons said.

Gibbons made the comments at the sidelines of Jerwin Ancajas’ press conference here Tuesday drumming up Ancajas’ world junior-bantamweight title defense against Japan’s Ryuichi Funai on May 4.

Ancajas is being promoted by Pacquiao’s MP Promotions.
