Barroca emerges as surprise favorite in fan poll for PBA All-Star

MANILA -- Star’s Mark Barroca emerged as the top vote-getter in fan polls for the upcoming 2017 PBA All-Star Week, which will have three separate legs in Cagayan de Oro, Lucena and Cebu.

According to the league’s official website, the 30-year-old playmaker garnered 32,793 from in-venue and online votes, spearheading the starting lineup of the Mindanao selection against Gilas Pilipinas in Cagayan de Oro on April 26.

All-Star favorites James Yap and Marc Pingris will lead the Visayan and Luzon squads, respectively. Yap, who now plays for Rain or Shine, got 18,612 votes, while Pingris garnered 11,079 votes.

Scottie Thompson (18,641), PJ Simon (16,486), Rafi Reavis (10,043) and Cyrus Baguio (9,396) will complete the First 5 for Team Mindanao.

June Mar Fajardo (18,042), Terrence Romeo (15,069), Joe Devance (10,758) and Jeff Chan (9,419) will join Yap in Team Visayas.

Calvin Abueva (11,538), Japeth Aguilar (11,159), Paul Lee (8,163) and Jayson Castro (6,627) will compose the starting roster with Pingris for Team Luzon.

The Lucena game will take place on April 28 followed by the Cebu match on April 30.

Joining as Team Mindanao’s reserves are Troy Rosario, Mac Belo, Jio Jalalon, RR Garcia, Sonny Thoss, Carlo Lastimosa, Glenn Khobuntin and Baser Amer.

Alex Cabagnot, LA Tenorio, Marcio Lassiter, Stanley Pringle, Mark Caguioa, Arwind Santos and Ranidel de Ocampo will make up the second unit for Team Luzon.

Chris Ross, Chris Ellis, Aldrech Ramos, Dondon Hontiveros, Ronald Tubid, Asi Taulava and Jericho Cruz will join Visayas as reserves.

Chito Victolero, Leo Austria and Tim Cone will be coaching the Mindanao, Luzon and Visayas teams, respectively.

The Gilas team will play against the All-Star selection as preparation for the SEABA Championship in May.

Fajardo, Romeo, Abueva, Aguilar, Castro, Rosario, Belo and Jalalon are part of the Philippine national squad that will participate in the exhibition game.
