MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) coach Kungfu Reyes vows the Tigresses will not show any complacency as they march towards a Final 4 spot in the UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball tournament.

A hard-fought 17-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-21 victory over traditional rivals Far Eastern University (FEU) gave the Tigresses a share of the third spot in the league standings with their 7-4 win-loss record, and put them one step closer to a first semis appearance in five years.

"Labanan na ng lahi ito," Reyes predicted on Saturday following their crucial win. "Ubusan na 'to."

"Hindi bale ng mamatay, huwag lang mapahiya. 'Yun ang labanan namin. Trabaho lang talaga," he stressed.

At 7-4, the Tigresses are tied with National University, though the Lady Bulldogs can take solo third place should they defeat University of the Philippines (6-5) on Sunday. UST did put some separation between themselves and FEU (5-6).

However, Reyes says the UST volleybelles cannot feel too comfortable, as they still have three games to go – one of which is against defending champion De La Salle University.

"Dikit-dikit pa rin eh," he pointed out. "It's anybody's ball game."

"Kung kaya namin ipanalo hanggang sa dulo ang last three games namin, mas maganda," Reyes stressed. "Hindi kami tumitigil na mag-settle kami ng less. Kung kaya naming umakyat pa, magi-aim na lang kami ng mas mataas."

[It's still a close race, and it's anybody's ball game. But if we can win our last three games, then that will be good for us. We won't settle for anything less. If we can continue to climb, then we will.]

The Ateneo Lady Eagles and the De La Salle Lady Spikers, both with 9-2 win-loss records, are firmly entrenched in the top two spots, which carries with them a twice-to-beat edge in the Final 4.

The Tigresses have not made the Final 4 since Season 74, when a Maika Ortiz-led team earned the third seed but lost to the second-seeded Ateneo de Manila University in the stepladder semifinals.

UST returns to action on Wednesday against La Salle, before wrapping up their elimination round schedule against UP on April 2, and NU on April 8.
