MANILA — Some 60 teams from different parts of the country will head to Dumaguete City next month to compete in the Little League Philippine Series

The teams will be divided into several categories including little league (12-under), junior league (14-U), and senior league (16-U) in both baseball and softball.

Ultimately, the goal is to make it all the way to the Little League baseball and softball World Series in the US.

“All the winners in softball will automatically represent the country in Singapore for the Asia-Pacific regional championship,” Little League Philippines district administrator Jolly Gomez said in the recent Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum at Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.

Whoever wins the regional championship will advance to the World Series in the US, said Gomez.

“’Yung 12-under and 13-under ng baseball, they will be going to the regionals in Korea, while the 14-under and 16-under baseball will advance to the regional tournament in Saipan,” Gomez added.

Also present at the forum was Tintin Remollo, who represented Dumaguete Mayor Ping Remollo. She said Dumaguete City is excited to host the event for the first time.

“We are very pleased to host the Philippine series this year . . . Dumaguete has been known to be a sports hub,” Remollo said.

Remollo, whose children also played baseball, said the series will take place in Barangay Daro, Lamberto Macias Sports Complex and Silliman University.

“Preparations are ongoing but we didn’t have to prepare that much because Dumaguete hosted the Negros Island regional meet to prepare for the Palaro. Because of that, the baseball field has already been set up,” she said.

The Philippine series will run from April 4-12.
