MANILA, Philippines – Reigning UAAP men's football MVP Jarvey Gayoso put on a scoring clinic to power Ateneo de Manila University past Adamson University, 4-0, in the Season 80 tournament on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Gayoso scored all four of Ateneo's goals in the first half, finding the back of the net in the ninth, 18th, 32nd, and 36th minute.

The third-year striker has now matched his goal total from last season with 12. There are still four matches left in Ateneo's elimination round schedule.

Gayoso is also the first player to score four goals in a game since National University's (NU) Paolo Salenga also fired four in a 7-0 rout of Adamson on March 17, 2016.

Gayoso was eventually subbed out at the start of the second half with Ateneo firmly in control of the match.

The Blue Eagles went on to take full points, hiking their total to 22. Adamson remains winless and has yet to earn a point in Season 80.

Meanwhile, University of the Philippines (UP) maintained its undefeated record and inched closer to a Final 4 appearance after cruising to a 3-0 win over University of the East (UE), also on Thursday.

The Fighting Maroons are still at the top of the league table with 23 points, just ahead of the Blue Eagles.

UP can secure a semifinals spot with a win over NU on Sunday, but coach Anto Gonzales has other things in mind as they try to keep its unbeaten record of seven wins and two draws.

"We don't really think about that," said Gonzales. "We are looking at our performances. We are thinking of improvement. We are not thinking at the Final 4 or at the championship."

Ian Clariño, King Miyagi and JB Borlongan were on target, but the Maroons could have scored more had the reserves responded to Gonzales' call to deliver the goods in the last 28 minutes of play.

With the defeat, the Red Warriors remained at 10 points, three off the last Final 4.
