The Houston Rockets and general manager Daryl Morey have agreed to a five-year contract extension.

"I'm super happy," Morey told the Houston Chronicle on Wednesday. "I'd love to be with the Rockets for life. This obviously solidifies us for a little while."

Morey, 46, has been the GM in Houston since 2007. The Rockets reached the Western Conference Finals in two of the previous four seasons and won a franchise-record 65 games in 2017-18.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but owner Tilman Fertitta told the newspaper that the deal makes Morey "one of the highest paid general mangers in the league, which he rightfully deserves."

"You want to keep good people under contract," Fertitta said. "Both of our goals is to bring another championship to Houston. We don't like rebuilding. We like to be competitive every year. We're on the same page. We look forward to being a successful team for many years to come."

The Rockets, who are third in the West entering Wednesday's game versus first-place Golden State, also picked up the option on head coach Mike D'Antoni's contract that will keep him in Houston through 2019-20.

Morey said he wants to work on an extension for D'Antoni during the offseason.

"He's such a critical factor," Morey said. "Speaking for myself only, I would love for him to be here for as long as he wants to be here. He's so critical to everything we're doing here."
