Filipina grappler Meggie Ochoa bags gold in London

Filipina Brazilian Jiu-jitsu specialist Meggie Ochoa took home gold at over the weekend at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tournament in London.

The 28-year old Ochoa, representing ATOS Jiu Jitsu, bested four other Purple Belts to take home the top prize in the Female Adult 49KG division.

Ochoa defeated Spain’s Luna Barea in the semifinals before submitting Indonesia’s Fransisca Nelson in just over five minutes to emerge victorious.

Considered one of the best grapplers in the Philippines, Ochoa is a three-time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) world champion and has taken home a number of top honors in various jiu-jitsu tournaments all over the world.

Two other Filipinas scored silver medals in the same two-day tournament, as Kaila Napolis finished second in the Femal Adult 55KG Purple Belt division, while Annie Ramirez went as far in the Female Adult 62KG Purple Belt division.
