Fil-Aussie Reece McLaren secured a shot at the ONE world flyweight title, thanks to a second-round stoppage of Malaysia's Gianni Subba at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Friday night.
McLaren dropped Subba with a takedown some 3 minutes into the second round before going for a quick arm triangle.
All he needed was a quick squeeze on Subba's neck to force the Malaysian to yield.
With the victory, McLaren locked a title clash against reigning flyweight king Adriano Moraes.
Meanwhile, former flyweight contender Danny "The King" Kingad fended off a late charge by his Bulgarian opponent to fashion out a unanimous decision victory in the undercard.
Kingad piled up the needed points in the early rounds against Sotir Kichukov until the latter nearly caught him with a rear naked choke late in the third round.
Fortunately, the Team Lakay stalwart was able to weather the storm and reached the final bell.
Kichukov came in as a late replacement after Kingad’s original assignment, Subba, moved on to the main event to tackle McLaren.
