MANILA, Philippines – This time, Shaq delos Santos found himself on the wrong side of UAAP history as the side he was coaching suffered a brutal set loss in the women's volleyball tournament.

Back in January 9, 2010, delos Santos was the coach of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) squad that had registered a merciless 25-2 rout of University of the East (UE) in a UAAP Season 72 game.

The Tigresses, then starring Rhea Dimaculangan, Aiza Maizo, and Angeli Tabaquero, went on to win, 25-2, 25-15, 25-8, and eventually the championship that season.

On Wednesday, seven seasons later, delos Santos watched as the Far Eastern University (FEU) squad that he was coaching fell apart against defending champion De La Salle University, 25-5, in the opening frame.

The Lady Tamaraws simply had no answer for a La Salle team that was raring to bounce back from a four-set loss the arch-rival Ateneo de Manila University. Toni Rose Basas registered their lone attack point -- a kill that made it 11-3 -- but FEU then surrendered 11 unanswered points to the Lady Spikers.

It took a mishit by Desiree Cheng to give FEU its fourth point, and a service error by Aduke Ogunsanya to give them their fifth. All in all, four of the Lady Tamaraws' five points in the set were from the Lady Spikers' errors, and not through any work of their own.

A disappointed delos Santos simply said after the game that the Lady Tamaraws are capable of playing at a much higher level.

"Ang sa akin lang naman, kailangan mas ipakita natin kung ano tayo kasi hindi naman tayo 'yung kulelat na team para maging ganoon," he said. "Kailangan ipakita namin kung ano 'yung kakayanan ng team namin."

[We should be able to show what we can do, because we're not a bottom team. We should show what we are capable of.]

The Lady Tamaraws put on a better fight in the second and third sets, but could not complete the comeback. La Salle won 25-5, 25-23, 25-23, for its sixth win of the Season 79 tournament.
