FEU, UST rule UAAP Season 79 athletics

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) won a seventh straight men's title, while University of Santo Tomas (UST) completed a three-peat in the women's division when the UAAP Season 79 athletics competition concluded on Sunday at the Philsports oval.

The Tamaraws relied on the brilliance of Janry Ubas to collect 404 points, way ahead of the Growling Tigers who had 244.

Ubas won gold medals in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, and decathlon en route to winning the MVP trophy.

De La Salle University, which shared the Day 1 lead with the Growling Tigers, settled for third place with 243 points.

FEU now has a league-best 25 athletics' championships.

Ubas, which also bagged a silver medal, broke the UAAP long jump record with a leap of 7.39 meters. He also shattered the league mark in the high jump during the decathlon competition with a jump of 2.05 meters.

Meanwhile, the Tigresses amassed a five-day total of 490 points to win their third straight title and seventh overall. They bested the Lady Tamaraws, who settled for second place with a total of 401 points.

University of the Philippines came in third place with 165 points.

Louielyn Pamatian won golds in the 1,500-meter and 800-meter run events, while finishing in second place in the 400-meter. She was named season MVP.

University of the East swept the boys and girls competitions, tallying 553 and 524 points, respectively.

The Junior Warriors' James Darrel Orduña and Ellah Therese Sirilan were named MVPs in their respective divisions.
