Defending champion San Juan-Go for Gold overwhelmed Mindoro-JAC Liner in a 114-68 victory to secure the top spot in the North Division in the MPBL Lakan Cup at Bahayang Pag-Asa Gym in Valenzuela on Saturday.

John Wilson led the way for the Knights with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists as San Juan finished its preliminary round campaign with a 26-4 record.

Larry Rodriguez chipped in 13 points and 9 boards, while Joseph Ubalde added 12 markers and 9 rebounds.

"Hindi lang kami tumingin sa standings. Ginawa lang namin yung sistema namin kaya kami nandito sa number one spot," said San Juan coach Randy Alcantara.

Rodel Vaygan paced the Tamaraws with 17 points and 8 rebounds as Mindoro fell to 9-20.

Meanwhile, Rizal Crusaders Xentro Mall fought off Quezon City-WEMSAP Capitals 72-62 to nab a second straight victory.

Buenaventura Raflores teamed up with Lord Casajeros while helping the Coolers improve to 7-22.

Raflores scored 13 markers, while Casajeros added 10 points to go with his 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

" 'Yung puso ng players ko, laban talaga sila kahit na out na kami and it is nice na lumalaban yung players," said Rizal coach Jayvee Gayoso.

In the late game, Batangas City Tanduay Athletics frustrated Valenzuela City Carga Backload Solution in the latter's turf 77-66.

Jhaymo Aguilos topped the Athetics with 18 points points while Ryusei Koga added 13 to extend Batangas' streak to 4 games.

The Athletics improved their record to 18-11, while Valenzuela fell to 11-19.
