MANILA, Philippines -- National University (NU) middle blocker Risa Sato vows to make a strong comeback in Season 82, after confirming that she cannot play this year for the Lady Bulldogs due to academic deficiencies.

The Filipino-Japanese star told reporters during Saturday's PVL All-Star festivities that she will indeed miss the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball tournament.

"This season, hindi ako makapaglaro. Bagsak ako," said Sato, who did not disclose which subjects she failed.

Sato is currently taking up sports and wellness management in NU.

This clearly saddened Sato, who would have been one of few veterans for a young NU team that also changed its head coach with just three months left before the season started.

"Mahirap," she said. "Siyempre, malungkot ako kasi sa team, (ako ang) pinaka-matanda."

"Senior ako, at need talaga na push ko 'yung mga teammates," she added.

Sato is determined to work on her academic deficiencies so she can return for Season 82, however.

"Bawi ako," she vows. "Kayang-kaya. Season 82, bawi ako doon."

In the meantime, Sato will continue to train with the NU team, along with the Creamline Cool Smashers.
