MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University center Ben Mbala is set to be named the Smart Player of the Year during the Collegiate Basketball Awards on Thursday night at the Montgomery Place Social Hall in E. Rodriguez Ave., Quezon City.

The Cameroonian center received the highest honor given by the group of scribes covering the collegiate beat, after he led the Green Archers to their ninth UAAP championship while also winning the league's Most Valuable Player award.

Mbala becomes the fourth player to win the honor, joining La Salle teammate Jeron Teng, former Ateneo de Manila University star and two-time winner Kiefer Ravena, and former Far Eastern University standout Mac Belo.
