(UPDATED) Chandler McDaniel scored the lone goal for the Philippines as the nationals pulled off a 1-0 stunner against Thailand in the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup on Friday.

It was a crucial and historic victory for the Filipinas at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India as it was the Filipinas' first win against Thailand in 13 games.

Forward McDaniel found a way to kick the ball going to the net in 81st minute. Thai keeper Waraporn Boonsing nearly caught the ball but it still went in, leading to a Philippine victory.

Prior to McDaniel's goal, new recruit Katrina Guillou nearly scored one but her attempt hit the cross bar. Quinley Quezada also fired an attempt but was deflected by Boonsing.

The Thais were more aggressive in the second half although the Pinays were still able to make decent attempts at the goal.

Then came McDaniel's goal in the 81st.

The win guaranteed the Pinays 3 points in Group B. They are ranked behind Australia which demolished Indonesia, 18-0.

It was the nationals' first win under new coach Alen Stajcic.
