MANILA, Philippines – Ariel dela Cruz and Michelle Carolino will call the shots for the BanKo Perlas Spikers in the upcoming season of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

The team announced Wednesday that the pair will take over the post vacated by Nai Muhammed of Thailand.

Dela Cruz used to coach the National University Lady Bulldogs, while Carolino was a star for the national team and the Army Lady Troopers a few years ago. This will be her coaching debut.

Under Muhammed's tutelage, BanKo Perlas just missed the semifinals of the PVL's Reinforced and Open Conferences. They finished in fifth place in both instances.

BanKo Perlas management is hopeful that the coaching change will augur well for their team.

"We're optimistic the team will have a better year," said Charo Soriano, one of the founders of Beach Volleyball Republic that also handles BanKo Perlas.

The team will keep the same core of last season's team, including skipper Suzanne Roces, Kat Bersola, Amanda Villanueva, Jem Ferrer, Ella de Jesus, Gizelle Tan, Nicole Tiamzon, Mae Tajima, and Amy Ahomiro.

According to Soriano, they are on the verge of signing players from UAAP teams, but won't make the official announcement until the collegiate season concludes in May.

Other than BanKo Perlas, other PVL teams are also expected to make coaching changes.

BaliPure lost Roger Gorayeb to PLDT, and Pocari Sweat promoted Rico de Guzman to team manager, while appointing Air Force's Jasper Jimenez as head coach.

The PVL season starts on April 1.
