The Philippines men's national football team lost 3-1 to Kyrgyzstan in Dubai on Wednesday, a result that put to a close its maiden AFC Asian Cup appearance.

Stephan Schrock entered the history books by becoming the first Philippines player to score a goal in the competition, but his glorious conversion off a free kick from long distance at Rashid Stadium and the Azkals' spirited push after that 80th-minute goal proved too late.

The Filipinos, whose stellar play in its first match against 2015 finalist Korea now seems to have happened a long time ago, finished Group C play without a win.

Vitalij Lux was a thorn on the Filipinos' side, as the Kyrgyz forward ran rampant to finish with a hat-trick, two of those goals he punched through after the break.
