MANILA -- The Philippine National Police are confident they will be able to capture fugitive pastor Apollo Quiboloy soon.

This, despite two unsuccessful attempts at serving an arrest warrant to controversial pastor, whom they believe is still hiding in his Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City.

"More than ever, we are very, very convinced na nandyan siya, kaya hinigpitan natin ng escape route. Alam na natin kung saan pero hindi lang natin alam kung paano mapasok," said Police B/Gen. Nicolas Torre III, PNP Regional Office 11 Director, in an interview on Teleradyo Sebisyo on Sunday night.

The PNP conducted an exhaustive manhunt in the KOJC compound near Davao’s Francisco Bangoy International Airport in search of Quiboloy and his associates, who are all wanted on charges of child abuse and human trafficking.

But despite fielding 2,000 policemen for the search, they were not able to capture the elusive Quiboloy.

However, Torre said it is just a matter of time.

"We have identified the exact location... itago na lang muna sa level na yan... it's just a matter of time," he said.

The operation resulted to a death of one of Quiboloy's followers who died due to exhaustion while the police were conducting its search.

The raid drew negative reactions from Quiboloy's followers, who cried for justice for the beleaguered religious leader.

"Nakikita ko a mga t-shirts nila, 'Justice for Apollo Quiboloy'," said Torre.

"Kung gusto nila ng hustisya para kay Apollo Quiboloy, dapat idulog natin yan sa korte. Korte lamang ang makapagsabi kung no ang hustisya. Hindi matatapos ng kaso na yan pag hindi humarap sa korte."

UNDERGROUND

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Director General Rommel Marbil believes Quiboloy could be hiding in an underground facility inside church’s compound.

“Ang sinasabi po natin na we are so sure na nandoon po ang taong hinahanap natin. Not only fugitive Apollo Quiboloy, but for others, nandoon po sa loob,” he said in a press conference in Davao City on Sunday. - With a report from Hernel Tocmo, ABS-CBN News
