MANILA (2nd UPDATE) -- Several areas in Batangas, as well as Muntinlupa City in Metro Manila, suspended classes on Monday, August 19 due to volcanic smog coming from the Taal Volcano.

Muntinlupa also suspended its Aug. 19 classes in all levels, Mayor Ruffy Biazon announced via Facebook Live. He said students already in class would be sent home.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1 which means that it is still in "abnormal condition and should not be interpreted to have ceased unrest nor ceased the threat of eruptive activity."
