MALOLOS, Bulacan — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources on Saturday said that an oil slick from a sunken tanker in Bataan is moving towards the coastline of Cavite.

The leak from the sunken tanker is "rather small and contained but it has spread quite quickly towards sa Bulacan area," Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga told President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in a situation briefing here.

The MT Terra Nova is carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil, "which is higher than the Mindoro oil spill so we are looking for ways on how to mitigate," the Environment chief said.

While the MT Terra Nova has a large volume of oil, it is only 35 meters below the water’s surface, compared to the Mindoro incident where the vessel was found 369 meters below, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said.
