MANILA – Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia has tendered her resignation as member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP).

This political party used to be led by former President Rodrigo Duterte and was once known as PDP-Laban (Lakas ng Bayan).

In her letter, Garcia noted that Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, another PDP member, had filed a complaint against her before the Office of the President in relation to her stance against the building of a Bus Rapid Transit station in front of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

Garcia said she only wanted to safeguard the building's cultural heritage.

She said “recent events have made it clear that my continued [PDP] membership is no longer tenable.”

“It has created an irreconcilable conflict,” added Garcia.

Rama sits as PDP’s Vice President for the Visayas.

Garcia has yet to disclose her next political party as the May 2025 polls near.

Prior to her joining PDP, Garcia was part of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
