Extreme heat sparked a grass fire that razed two of the famous Chocolate Hlls in Bohol Tuesday night.

Fire Officer 2 Jose Añus, investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Carmen, said the fire started at 7 p.m. and was put out after 3 hours. Only one fire truck was deployed.

“Amo lang gimonitor ug gistandbyhan. Wala namo gisaka kay daghang kahoy ug dili ka sud among fire truck (We just monitored and stood by it. We need not go up since there were a lot of trees and our fire truck could not get inside),” said Añus.

Some trees, leaves and branches were razed. Officials have yet to determine the value of the damage and the total land area affected.

Initial investigation showed extreme heat started the fire after the heat index in Bohol reached 41 degrees Celsius.
