Egg production in the municipality of San Jose in Batangas province fell by about 10 percent due to the El Niño, a group of producers said Saturday.

Michael Lescano, chairperson of the Batangas Egg Producers Multipurpose Cooperative, said the hot and humid weather conditions are affecting the poultry performance.

San Jose town, dubbed as “egg basket of the Philippines,” usually produces 10 million eggs a day and provides supplies to Calabarzon and Metro Manila regions and other parts of Visayas and Mindanao, according to Lescano.

Lescano, however, clarified the supply of eggs remains stable and there has been no increase in farmgate prices.
