MANILA — At least two people in Camarines Sur were reported dead and 300 barangays were submerged due to severe tropical storm "Kristine" on Wednesday (October 23).

According to Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. LRay Villafuerte, early evacuation efforts were conducted in the province but the strength of "Kristine" was unexpected.

"Ang hindi talaga namin inexpect 'yung mga dating [hanggang] tuhod lang ang [baha,] for the past 30 years, ngayon umabot ng lampas tao at bahay eh so unexpected talaga," Villafuerte said in TeleRadyo Serbisyo's Johnson Ikwento Mo.

The lawmaker also said that as of 8:53 p.m. Wednesday, 630 barangays have been affected by Kristine's onslaught, with waters in 300 barangays still rising and several residents have yet to be rescued.

The province was placed under a state of calamity status earlier, having no electricity in a wide range and all evacuation centers running on generators and having problems with potable water.

As of PAGASA's 8 p.m. weather advisory, Camarines Sur is under Signal No. 2.
