MANILA - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is eyeing Russia as an alternative destination for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) amid a decline in Middle East's job requirements due to falling oil prices.

Russia has a huge demand for professionals, house helpers and construction workers, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said.

Bello said he has urged President Rodrigo Duterte to endorse OFW workers to Moscow when he meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin next year.

There are currently some 4,000 OFWs in Russia's construction, household service and hotel industries.
