MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday welcomed the one-month extension of the amnesty program for overstaying Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The extended amnesty program that will end until Dec. 1 will benefit more Filipinos who may wish to return home, DFA said.

The program started in August for all visa violators and illegal residents in the UAE.

Some 2,153 undocumented Filipinos have so far sought the amnesty and have been reunited with their loved ones in the Philippines.

DFA urged undocumented Filipinos in the UAE to avail of the program before the set deadline.

The Philippine government will pay for the exit fines and airline tickets back to Manila and their respective provinces.
