MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday it was checking if Filipinos were among the casualties of an explosion near the Bologna airport in Italy.

At least one person was killed and more than 60 others were reported injured after a tanker truck crashed into a lorry and exploded, sending a fireball across a busy motorway in the northern Italian city.

“We are saddened by the loss of life in the accident in Bologna and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Consul General Irene Susan Natividad said.

Philippine officials are in touch with Italian authorities and members of the Filipino community in Bologna, the DFA said.
