Filipino-American Ron Villanueva, former Virginia House of Delegates member, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for defrauding the federal government.

Villanueva, who also served as Virginia Beach Councilman, was charged with improperly assisting two Virginia Beach companies with getting special government contracts and for receiving $80-million in government contracts for which he may not have been eligible.

Earlier this year, Villanueva pleaded guilty to multiple charges including falsifying records.

He publicly apologized before his sentencing.
