LAS VEGAS, Nevada - A neighborhood shootout in Las Vegas led to the deaths of two people, including a 34-year old Filipina who was allegedly shot in front of her young child.
Last Thursday, witnesses saw Karen Gotidoc Lopez and her ex-husband, 49-year old Fernando Lopez, arguing in a car with their 4-year old son.
Police reports said the estranged couple's car was parked in front of a random home where two men who lived at the house were in the driveway. The argument reportedly escalated and Karen got out of the car and handed her son over to the two men.
When Fernando pulled out a handgun, police said one of the residents took out a gun from his home before Fernando opened fire on his ex-wife. This led to a shootout between Fernando and the armed resident.
Karen and Fernando died from their injuries. The armed resident is expected to survive.
The boy and the other resident were not harmed.
Besides the boy, Karen also left behind a 10-year old son.
A GoFundMe account was created to help raise money to send Karen's body home to her family in Tarlac, Philippines.
