The family of steel magnate Anson Que on Saturday denied allegations that he had links to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

Que and his driver were found dead in Rodriguez, Rizal, two weeks after the victims went missing.

“The family of the late Anson Tan (Anson Que) firmly disputes allegations that their father was involved in POGO transactions. They have no rental property in Bulacan to speak of," the family's legal counsel Atty. Jose Christopher “Kit” Belmonte said in a statement.

"We appeal to the public to remain critical of misleading news and thank everyone for their support. The family will continue to fully cooperate with the Philippine National Police even as they request that they be accorded privacy during this time of grief and mourning.”

Que's legal name is Anson Tan, but he was known socially as Anson Que.

"Mr. Tan has been engaged in legitimate business for decades and is a stalwart member of the Filipino Chinese business community and is known for his charitable work. During his lifetime, he stayed away from shady dealings and only did business with people he knew and trusted," said Belmonte.

 Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla earlier said the POGO link was brought up during his meeting with the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation on Friday.

Authorities suspect that an alleged POGO operator was behind the kidnapping and killing of Que after reports surfaced alleging that POGO bosses were demanding a "refund" from the businessman.

Remulla said they are looking into all possible motives behind the murder.

“That is also at the range of our conversation earlier, but we cannot release everything that we talked about, it’s not executive privilege it’s just these are operational secrets, we cannot divulge right now,” said Remulla.
