Cagayanos are no strangers to strong typhoons. Having withstood Typhoon Lawin in 2016, the provincial government made necessary preparations to reduce disaster risk by constantly reminding their constituents of the possible impacts of the incoming super typhoon.

Typhoon Ompong made landfall in Baggao town, Cagayan at 1:45 a.m. Saturday moving west with maximum sustained winds of 205 km/h and gusts of 255 km/h. Its violent winds as predicted heavily damaged infrastructures in the province, displacing thousands and leaving them without power.
