MANILA – Pastor Apollo Quiboloy surrendered to authorities on Sunday because he did not want the “lawless violence” to continue happening inside the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City, the church’s chief legal counsel said.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Atty. Israelito Torreon described Quiboloy’s act as his “ultimate sacrifice.”

“He could not bear to witness a second longer the sufferings that his flock was experiencing for many days,” said Torreon.

“Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy was actually waiting for positive results vis-a-vis the legal remedies that his lawyers opted to avail, hence, he was out of reach for a number of days,” he added.

Torreon noted the sad state happening inside the KOJC compound after police implemented its search warrant, this supposedly turned the church into a “police garrison” and has also been “desecrated.”

“Even if he has the right to await the result of the legal remedies being resorted to by his lawyers, he decided to make the ultimate sacrifice by surrendering himself to the PNP and AFP,” he said.

Quiboloy's last public sighting and statement was earlier this year, when he accused the Marcos administration and the United States of a "conspiracy" to "eliminate" him.

Aside from being wanted in the US for sex trafficking, fraud and other crimes, Quiboloy also faces arrest warrants from the Senate for skipping its probe on alleged abuse in the KOJC and from two courts for child and sexual abuse and human trafficking charges.

He is currently under the custody of the Philippine National Police and has been placed at its custodial facility.
