MANILA (UPDATED) — The water level at the Marikina River hit the Second Alarm Monday morning, which prompts residents near the river to evacuate.

Marikina City's public information office said the water level at the river was at 17.1 meters as of 10:04 a.m. as tropical storm Enteng lashed the country.

It is expected to further rise as heavy rains were forecast over Metro Manila and neighboring areas on Monday.

If the water level breaches 18 meters, the local government will implement forced evacuation under the Third Alarm.

Tropical storm Enteng has prompted class cancellations across the country due to severe rains and possible flooding.

As of 7 a.m., tropical storm Enteng was located 100 kilometers north-northwest of Daet, Camarines Norte, packing 75 kilometers per hour winds.

Many areas in Luzon were under heavy rainfall warnings and tropical cyclone wind signals 2 and 1 as the storm moved west-northwestward.
