A fire broke out at the Philippine General Hospital on Taft Avenue, Manila Monday morning but was quickly placed under control.

Initial reports said some patients were ordered to evacuate the hospital before the fire was placed under control at 6:47 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The Department of Health earlier said it is on standby to receive patient transfers from the UP Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) should there be a need.

“DOH is aware of the ongoing fire incident at its allied hospital, and is giving way for fire personnel to address the situation. We continue to monitor developments,” Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa said in a statement.
