Continuous heavy rains battered parts of Manila and Quezon City Monday morning, brought on by a low pressure area.

Gutter deep to knee deep floods were reported along Biak-na-bato, Quezon Avenue, and NS Amoranto.

There are also gutter deep floods in some parts of Banawe Street, Araneta Avenue, and Mother Ignacia Avenue as of 4:30 in the morning. The said roads are still passable to vehicles as of this hour.

Meanwhile, some students complained that the heavy rains and floods spoiled their first day back in school.

Hannah, a freshman student in Manila, said she had just come from Cavite and had traveled to Manila for their school’s “welcome walk.”

“Kagabi hindi bumagsak sa amin ang ulan… nagulat ako na maulan na ang nadatnan ko,” she said.

“Rain or shine ay matutuloy naman unless tumaas ang (baha) or nasa alert level,” she added.

Tricycle driver Roland de Guzman said the  early morning rains pose a challenge since he cannot bring passengers if the floods are too high.

“Kapagka mataas na ang tubig, hindi na kaya ng makina namin. Tuloy ang trabaho namin hanggang gabi, hanggang hindi inaabot ang makina namin,” he said.

Traffic on Espana Boulevard in Manila remained light to moderate as of 6:20 a.m.
