The southbound lane of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover has been reopened Thursday, more than 3 months after it was shut down for retrofitting and rehabilitation.

The rehabilitation, which was supposed to take 6 months, is in line with the Japan International Cooperation Agency's (JICA) recommendation to make the critical structure ready to withstand a strong earthquake.

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes attributed the early completion of the flyover’s retrofitting, aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists and the general public, to the cooperation and close coordination of the concerned agencies.

Artes said coordination with other agencies is ongoing for the other bridges in Metro Manila set for reinforcement, like the Guadalupe Bridge and the Magallanes flyover in Makati City.

Meanwhile, the Guadalupe Bridge’s repair is still in the planning stages as a temporary bridge must be constructed to accommodate passing vehicles.
