MANILA — Senator Francis Tolentino justified his proposal to have the Manila Zoo transfer to the Masungi georeserve, citing the need to care for animals in a natural habitat amid the pollution in Metro Manila.

“I appreciate the answer of Mayor Lacuna. My proposal was made because of a deep seated concern for animals living in an unnatural habitat which would need protection and the Philippines has been a signatory to various laws concerning animals so that’s why I proposed the transfer of the Manila Zoo to the Masungi georeserve,” Tolentino said.

Responding to additional costs that may entail in visiting the Zoo far from Manila, he said a rail line to Masinag is now being constructed.  

“Wala namang masama doon sa recommendation kasi wala nang ibang lugar and I think the Masungi issue is still pending before the appropriate Senate committee kung sino talaga ang magpapatakbo noon,” Tolentino said.
