The suspect who allegedly pushed 74-year-old Filipina-American Corazon Dandan into the path of a San Francisco train that killed her failed to show up in court for a second time.

Forty-nine-year-old Trevor Belmont, described as a transient, was scheduled to be arraigned last Friday afternoon and again on Monday morning. But he failed to appear in court due to illness. His arraignment was moved to Tuesday morning.

“Of course we want justice to be served. But the reality is, at least from my standpoint, I’m not speaking on behalf of the family, it’s a mentally ill person. I don't really know what kind of justice you’re gonna get,” said Alvin Dandan, the victim’s nephew.

The district attorney has charged Belmont, also known as Hoak Taing, with one count of murder.

Dandan had just finished her shift as a hotel telephone operator on July 1 and was waiting at the Powell street BART Station when Belmont allegedly pushed her into the path of a Millbrae-bound train. She suffered from severe head injuries and died.

The Philippine-born Dandan had migrated to San Francisco in the 1980s. While she had no children of her own, she helped put her nieces and nephews through school, according to her family.
